Who We Are

Shelagh Baird, MPH

Shelagh Baird

Shelagh, a Big Sur, California native, currently works in international health operations research. Her professional skills include grant development and management, coordinating ethical review of research projects, and program management related to health systems strengthening and HIV/AIDS treatment and care in Mozambique. Shelagh is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Cruz, where she earned her BA in Politics and Journalism, and of the University of Washington, where she earned her Master of Public Health in Community-Oriented Public Health Practice. 

Her professional interests include qualitative research, HIV/AIDS, and health systems research.

Shannon Ginn, MPH

Shannon Ginn

Shannon earned her BA in Geology from Carleton College in Minnesota, and spent 2 years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Panama. After running an eco-tourism business for 6 years and becoming fluent in Spanish, Shannon returned to her native Seattle to pursue an MPH at the University of Washington. Shannon’s interest in community development and social marketing led to a collaboration with Sea Mar Community Health Centers’ diabetes awareness program for Latinos. She is an experienced project manager and proficient in qualitative analysis, and community assessments.

In her free time, Shannon enjoys tennis, hiking, cooking, and hanging out with her son.

Maggie Jones, MPH

Maggie Jones

Maggie Jones moved to Seattle to pursue her MPH at University of Washington in 2005. With a BA in Business from the University of Minnesota, she has consistently focused on working for the betterment of health and health services for underserved people. Maggie’s experience includes conducting organizational assessments and program evaluation for a variety of health and human service organizations. More specifically, she has used her skills in qualitative and quantitative research to facilitate cultural competency-related organizational development projects, conduct clinical quality improvement studies, and evaluate a variety of health-related programs.

Maggie is a trained Shiatsu therapist, and likes to spend her time in the outdoors with her fiancé and dog and cook fabulous vegan meals.

Anna Kashner, MPH

Anna Kashner

A native Seattlite, Anna’s work has primarily been in the field of education. With a BA in Women’s Studies from UC Santa Cruz and her MPH from the University of Washington, her focus has been on the intersections and interdependence of public health and education. With over 10 years of experience as an educator in low-income communities, her interests center around equity in education, curriculum development, sexual education, as well as community assessments and engagement. Further, she has experience in qualitative data collection and analysis; project management; and grant and budget management.

Travel, spending time outdoors, and dancing salsa are what Anna does in her free time.

Carly Kaufman, MEd, MPH

Carly Kaufman

Carly is a native Seattlite who is committed to strengthening our local communities. With a BA in Psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, an MEd from Seattle University, and a MPH from the University of Washington, Carly brings a strong academic background to her work. Her experience spans the micro and macro level in the fields of education and public health. She designed and coordinated a variety of major education projects at the Hope Heart Institute at Swedish Medical Center, worked with the Violence and Injury Prevention Unit at Public Health Seattle-King County, and currently works at the University of Washington's Department of Psychosocial and Community Health on a project addressing nationwide health inequity initiatives. Carly’s skills include fundraising, health education, curriculum development, and all aspects of qualitative research.

When not working, Carly spends her time with her husband and their new son Dylan, hanging outside, cooking for friends, and traveling.

Amelia McGee, MPH

Amelia McGee

Amelia has extensive experience in technical editing and writing of public health-related materials. Her portfolio of projects includes creating and carrying out a knowledge management strategy for a multi-country organization; conducting community assessments; and evaluating curricula for health literacy appropriateness. In addition, Amelia’s fastidious organizational skills make her well equipped to be a project manager—she has overseen the development of several websites, community assessments, and large-scale editing projects.

Amelia has a BA in Community Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and an MPH in Community-Oriented Public Health Practice from the University of Washington. Her areas of professional interest include health literacy, the visual display of information, and maternal and child and international health.

Maia Piccagli, MEd, MPH

Maia Piccagli

Maia’s commitment to the community is evident through her dedication to community-based non-profit organizations, both as an employee, a board member, and volunteer fundraiser; as well as her tenure as middle school teacher and reproductive health educator. Her BA in Human Biology from Stanford University, her Masters in Education from the University of Arizona, and her MPH from the University of Washington have contributed to her expertise in facilitation and training, program management, and curriculum development. Maia’s experience includes conducting community assessments, developing and curriculum for groups of all ages (children to adults), fundraising, and coordinating a volunteer-driven cooking and nutrition program for low-income families. Her fluency in Spanish has contributed to an increased ability to work with underserved people in our communities.

Playing soccer, traveling, and indulging in creative projects keep Maia busy in her leisure time.
